Spiritual Questions

"Why would God allow this?" is one of the most honest questions a first responder can ask.

Few people see suffering up close the way first responders do — and that can shake even a strong faith, or make someone who never believed start asking hard questions for the first time.

Why does God allow suffering? Where was He on the worst calls you've run? Can He really forgive everything you've seen and done? These aren't questions to be ashamed of — they're questions Scripture takes seriously too. A chaplain isn't here to give you a canned answer and move on. We're here to sit with the questions alongside you, for as long as that takes.

What Scripture Says

“The Lord is nigh unto all them that call upon him, to all that call upon him in truth.” — Psalm 145:18

On Trusting What You Can't Yet See

“Trust in the Lord with all thine heart; and lean not unto thine own understanding.” — Proverbs 3:5

On God's Nearness in Hard Places

“Yea, though I walk through the valley of the shadow of death, I will fear no evil: for thou art with me.” — Psalm 23:4
