About Crusaders Outreach Ministries

Serving those who serve our communities — with compassion, confidentiality, and the hope of Christ.

Our Mission

We provide biblical chaplaincy support to first responders across the United States. Our ministry exists to serve all first responders, inlcuding: police, fire, EMS, dispatch, and their families with encouragement, prayer, and spiritual care.

Who We Are

Crusaders Outreach Ministries is a Christian ministry made up of law enforcement officers, first responders, chaplains, and family members who share a calling to serve those who serve our communities. First responders face danger, pressure, and emotional strain every day, and many feel overlooked or under attack. Our mission is to stand beside them with prayer, support, and encouragement rooted in the hope of Christ.

A Ministry Through the Local Church

We are a local church ministry that is based out of Capital Heights Baptist Church of Tallahassee, FL which is pastored by Pastor Derrick Burrus who is our Chief of Operations with Chaplain Joseph Taylor as our Commander (based in Ennis, TX).

Although many organizations employ chaplains, Crusaders Outreach is not an organization in that sense. We operate as a ministry through the local church, not as an agency or department. Several of our staff are licensed or ordained through their home churches, and all serve under biblical accountability and pastoral oversight.

Who Serves With Us

Our team includes retired, former, and active law enforcement officers; first responders and corrections personnel; family members of officers; agency support staff; and chaplains who also serve in law enforcement roles. This blend of experience allows us to understand the unique pressures first responders face and to minister with empathy, confidentiality, and respect.

How We Serve

We believe ministry must go beyond church buildings and titles. First responders need support where they are— in their grief, their stress, their family struggles, and their daily challenges. We serve through prayer, encouragement, crisis and grief support, pastoral care, and simply walking with them through difficult seasons. Our goal is to meet their needs with the compassion of Christ.

Our History

In 2000, the ministry began as Law Enforcement Outreach. In 2011, the name changed to Crusaders Outreach. Chaplain Joe Taylor and Chaplain Derrick Burrus received permission from their former high school to use the Crusaders mascot as the symbol of the ministry—a reminder of courage, service, and the call to “go into all the world” (Mark 16:15).

In 2015, “Ministries” was added to reflect our growing work. In 2018, the ministry was reorganized as Crusaders Law Enforcement Outreach. Today, while our heart remains deeply connected to law enforcement, we serve all first responders, including fire, EMS, dispatch, and corrections.
