You've seen and carried things most people never will. You don't have to carry them alone.
Intrusive memories, hypervigilance, sleepless nights, feeling numb or on edge — these are common responses to the trauma first responders face on the job, not signs of weakness.
Years of responding to the worst moments in other people's lives take a real toll. Whether it's one call that won't leave you or the slow accumulation of everything you've seen, that weight is heavy — and it's meant to be carried with others, not alone. A chaplain can't erase what you've experienced, but we can walk with you, listen without judgment, and point you toward both spiritual and professional support.
“The Lord is nigh unto them that are of a broken heart; and saveth such as be of a contrite spirit.” — Psalm 34:18
“He healeth the broken in heart, and bindeth up their wounds.” — Psalm 147:3
“Come unto me, all ye that labour and are heavy laden, and I will give you rest.” — Matthew 11:28
Talking with a chaplain is confidential and judgment-free — we're not here to evaluate your fitness for duty or report back to your department. If what you're carrying feels like more than you can manage, we also encourage working with a licensed counselor alongside your faith; caring for your mind is not a lack of faith, it's wisdom. A chaplain can help you find both.
