The weight of a decision made in a split second doesn't have to define the rest of your life.
Moral injury is the deep unease that comes from doing, failing to do, or witnessing something that goes against what you believe is right — even when you did everything you could.
It's different from ordinary stress. It's the call that ended badly no matter what you tried. The choice you had seconds to make. The moment you couldn't save someone. First responders carry these moments quietly, often believing no one else could understand. A chaplain won't tell you the guilt isn't real, and we won't pretend to have easy answers — but we believe grace is real too, and no one should carry that weight in silence.
“If we confess our sins, he is faithful and just to forgive us our sins, and to cleanse us from all unrighteousness.” — 1 John 1:9
“There is therefore now no condemnation to them which are in Christ Jesus.” — Romans 8:1
“His mercies... are new every morning: great is thy faithfulness.” — Lamentations 3:22–23
You don't have to sort through this alone, and you don't have to have the right words. A chaplain can sit with you in it, listen to the whole story, and help you find a way forward — spiritually and, where it's needed, alongside professional counseling as well.
