Grief & Loss

Losing someone you served with or served for leaves a wound that duty alone can't heal.

Whether it's a partner, a friend on the job, or someone you responded to and couldn't save, grief in this line of work is often carried in silence — there's rarely time to stop and process it before the next call comes in.

First responders are trained to keep moving, and that instinct can make grief feel like something to push down rather than work through. But loss deserves to be grieved, not just survived. A chaplain is here to sit with you in that loss — to listen, to pray with you if you'd like, and to remind you that grief is not a failure to cope, it's love with nowhere to go.

What Scripture Says

When Your Heart Is Broken

“The Lord is nigh unto them that are of a broken heart; and saveth such as be of a contrite spirit.” — Psalm 34:18

When You Need Comfort

“Blessed are they that mourn: for they shall be comforted.” — Matthew 5:4

For the Hope Beyond Loss

“God shall wipe away all tears from their eyes; and there shall be no more death, neither sorrow, nor crying.” — Revelation 21:4
